Macy’s to open online store on Tmall

Macy’s China Ltd, a joint ven­ture be­tween Macy’s and Hong Kong-based Fung Re­tail­ing Ltd, will launch a flag­ship store on Tmall Global, Alibaba’s ecom­merce plat­form, re­ported For­tune mag­a­zine’s Chi­nese edi­tion. The move makes Macy’s — which had in 2012 launched a joint ven­ture with a lo­cal ecom­merce com­pany that failed — the first US depart­ment store to es­tab­lish a pres­ence on Tmall, and it fol­lows in the foot­steps of global brands like Zara, Old Navy, Nike, Adi­das, Unilever and Ama­zon. Alibaba fa­cil­i­tated 673 bil­lion yuan worth of trans­ac­tions via its e-re­tail plat­forms in the sec­ond quar­ter of this year, the US-listed com­pany re­ported.
