China Daily (Canada) - - SHANGHAI -

The 25 stores in Shanghai that are qualified to process tax refunds have submitted applications for 335 overseas travelers since the tax refund policy came into effect in July, the Economic Daily reported. The applications include 1,543 items with a total cost of nearly 1.9 million yuan and 208,700 yuan worth of tax will be refunded to the travelers from 48 countries and regions, said an official from the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Local Taxation. According to relevant Chinese laws, overseas travelers do not have to pay tax if they buy items such as clothes, accessories, jewelries, cameras, kitchenware, handicraft, skincare and Chinese medicines.
