Pres­i­dent Xi awards medals to vet­er­ans

Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping pre­sented com­mem­o­ra­tive medals to 30 vet­er­ans for their con­tri­bu­tion to China’s vic­tory against Ja­panese ag­gres­sion morn­ing, prior to the Vic­tory Pa­rade mark­ing the 70th an­niver­sary of the end of World War II.

Guo Weimin, deputy di­rec­tor of State Coun­cil In­for­ma­tion Of­fice, pro­vided de­tails about the five cat­e­gories of vet­er­ans be­ing hon­ored. They in­clude:

Vet­er­ans who served in the Com­mu­nist Party of China’s (CPC’s) counter-Ja­panese forces, in­clud­ing the Eighth Route Army, New Fourth Army, North­east China Counter-Ja­panese United Forces and South China Guer­ril­las .

Per­son­nel who worked in un­der­ground or­ga­ni­za­tions led by the CPC dur­ing the war against Ja­panese in­va­sion.

Vet­er­ans who re­turned home as peasants or joined CPC rev­o­lu­tion­ary ac­tiv­i­ties af­ter fight­ing with the Kuom­intang (KMT).

Pa­tri­otic per­son­ages who con­trib­uted to the vic­tory in the war, com­man­ders of anti-Ja­panese forces or their sur­viv­ing de­pen­dents.

For­eign­ers who con­trib­uted to the vic­tory.
