China Rail­way losses widen in first-half

China Rail­way Corp, the Sta­te­owned spin-off of the for­merMin­istry of Rail­ways, lost 8.82 bil­lion yuan ($1.38 bil­lion) in the first half of the year, com­pared to a 5.36 bil­lion yuan loss a year ear­lier, of­fi­cials said onWed­nes­day, which was blamed on fall­ing lev­els of bulk cargo. Within to­tal rev­enue of 431.3 bil­lion yuan, freight-trans­port in­come was 118.5 bil­lion yuan, a 6.17 per­cent fall year-on-year, while pas­sen­ger in­come rose 16.39 per­cent to 118.78 bil­lion yuan.
