Former angel lights up X’mas tree in Shanghai
Wearing a red caped dress and thigh-high boots, former Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda Kerr lit up what she said is “the most beautiful Christmas tree she has ever seen in her life” during a Swarovski event in Shanghai on Dec 7.
Located in the center of luxury shopping mall Grand Gateway 66 in downtown Shanghai, the 12.8-meter-tall structure is made up of oversized Swarovski gift boxes stacked upon one another to resemble the shape of Christmas tree. Displayed in some of these boxes were replicas of jewelry pieces Kerr had designed for the brand.
“This is like the best surprise ever,” said Kerr, who has been the brand ambassador for Swarovski since 2013. “The design process has been very fun and it is rewarding to be involved in every aspect of it.”
Kerr was presented with the opportunity to flex her creative muscles for the century-old crystal house when the brand discovered that their international design team was “missing someone from Australia”. Swarovski has partnered many
acclaimed fashion designers and artists from around the world before, including fashion legends such as Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier.
The Sydney-born model’s glittering career with Victoria’s Secret came to an end in 2013 when the fashion label reportedly chose not to renew her $1 million, three-year-contract. Regardless, Kerr’s fashion career has continued to gain momentum over the years, having appeared on scores of fashion magazine covers and even taking over Gisele Bundchen as the face of fast fashion chain H&M in 2014.
Kerr is one of the most active and followed models on social media, boasting 7.4 million fans on Facebook, 7 million on Instagram and 4 million on Twitter. With estimated earnings of $5.5 million, she was ranked as the world’s sixth richest model by Forbes this year.
Besides Swarovski, Kerr is also the global brand ambassador for Unilever’s Clear Hair products. Having studied nutrition and health psychology, the 32-year-old Australian runs her own organic skincare product line, Kora Organics, which was established in 2009.
“I have learned that jetlag is real,” she said, when asked about the important things she has learned after her illustrious modeling career that started when she was just 13. “I have definitely learned from this career to not take anything personally, like rejection.”
Kerr said that she was going to spend Christmas with her two-year-old son, Flynn, and her big family of 31 members in Australia. But instead of indulging in a big feast, she will be sticking to her organic roasted vegetable diet, albeit with “a little bit of chicken and gravy”.
I have definitely learned from this career to not take anything personally, like rejection.”
Miranda Kerr has played a key role in the design of several Swarovski creations.
