Desalination plant may be switched on, at last

China Daily (Canada) - - BUSINESS -

A multibillion dollar desalination plant in the Australian state of Victoria could be switched on for the first time after water catchment levels in the state have fallen in a dry summer. Victoria’s desalination plant has sat idle since construction of the $4.35-billion government project finished in 2012. But the controversial plant — which contractually costs taxpayers $1.3 million each day, despite never having produced a drop of fresh water — may be called into action, as the summer months take their toll.
