China Daily (Canada) - - NEWS CAPSULE -

The Chinese shooting team that will take part in a test event prior to the Rio Olympics arrived in the host city 10 days early to get a taste of the local climate and get over jet lag.

More than 30 of the 45 medalists from the London Olympics will compete in the ISSF World Cup for rifle, pistol and shotgun, which is also an Olympic test event and will be held between Thursday and April 25.

Wang Yifu, head coach of the Chinese shooting team, said the reason for coming early was to get adjusted to Rio’s environment. “Most of our shooters are coming to Rio for the first time, they are not familiar with this city,” he said.

The Chinese team completed its Olympic qualification last month. A total of 17 shooters will compete at the Rio Olympics; six are Olympic gold medalists and nine are Olympic newcomers.
