Chatty ro­bots wel­come pres­i­dent

Two ro­bots de­vel­oped in An­hui prov­ince greeted Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping dur­ing his visit this week to an ad­vanced tech­nol­ogy research in­sti­tute in He­fei, the cap­i­tal of An­hui.

The two ro­bots, which were jointly de­vel­oped by a lo­cal com­pany and the Univer­sity of Sci­ence and Tech­nol­ogy of China in He­fei, talked to Xi on Tues­day when he in­spected achieve­ments in tech­nol­ogy in­no­va­tion in the prov­ince.

“Hello, Mr Pres­i­dent. I am Xiao Man. We have been look­ing for­ward to your visit,” one ro­bot said.

“I’m very happy to see you, dear Pres­i­dent. I wish you hap­pi­ness ev­ery day,” said the other ro­bot, named Jia Jia.

Dur­ing his visit to the univer­sity’s In­sti­tute of Ad­vanced Tech­nol­ogy, Xi praised tech­ni­cians’ work on in­no­va­tion and said the coun­try must rely on in­no­va­tion to boost high-end man­u­fac­tur­ing, since China has en­tered the new nor­mal phase.
