Philip­pine im­ports up 39.3% in May

Philip­pine im­ports grewby 39.3 per­cent year-on-year to $6.736 bil­lion in­May, the Philip­pine Sta­tis­tics Author­ity said. So­cioe­co­nomic Plan­ning Sec­re­tary Ernesto Per­nia said the bullish per­for­mance of im­ports was a clear sig­nal that the do­mes­tic eco­nomic con­di­tions re­main ro­bust de­spite the weak global econ­omy. “With its cur­rent up­ward trend, we ex­pect in­vest­ments and con­sump­tion to drive growth for the rest of the year,” he said.
