Beijing to adopt new temporary residential permit
Beijing will introduce a new temporary residence permit system on Oct 1 that will give permit holders many of the benefits given to permanent residents.
People who stay in Beijing for more than six months who have a stable job and a residence or are in education full-time will be able to apply for the permit, local authorities said. It will be issued in about 15 days.
Previously, temporary residential permits came with almost no rights or benefits. Permanent Beijing residents will have better educational opportunities, employment support, senior citizen benefits and social welfare.
Beijing’s permanent population has exceeded 20 million, more than twice that of London or New York.
