Funds available to help Beijing’s bookstores
Brick-and-mortar bookstores around the world have been hurt by online stores and the growth of e-books. Now Beijing is trying to help bookstores in the capital city.
Beijing has earmarked $2.7 million in financial support for book retailers. Those who are licensed, have fixed stores and have been operating for at least three years can apply for the financial support.
The aid offer came from the municipal bureau of press, publications, radio, film and television. It said the government plans to support 70 bookstores this year, and the maximum amount for each store is about $150,000.
