Tian­jin leg­is­la­ture ap­points act­ing mayor

Wang Dongfeng has been ap­pointed act­ing mayor of north­ern China’s Tian­jin mu­nic­i­pal­ity, lo­cal au­thor­i­ties an­nounced on Wed­nes­day. The de­ci­sion was made at a ses­sion of the Stand­ing Com­mit­tee of the Tian­jin Peo­ple’s Congress, the city’s leg­isla­tive body.

Wang, 58, formerly held posts in his na­tive prov­ince of Shaanxi and was ap­pointed the deputy chief of Tian­jin’s Com­mu­nist Party of China mu­nic­i­pal com­mit­tee in 2013, ac­cord­ing to the of­fi­cial web­site of the Tian­jin gov­ern­ment.

Huang Xing­guo, the former mayor of Tian­jin who was also pre­vi­ously act­ing Party chief in the city, is be­ing in­ves­ti­gated over al­le­ga­tions of “se­ri­ous dis­ci­plinary vi­o­la­tions”. Deputy Mayor Yin Hailin is also un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion. On Tues­day, LiHongzhong, the former top of­fi­cial of Hubei prov­ince, was ap­pointed to as the city’s Party chief.

Mean­while, Wang Xiaodong, who has been deputy Party chief of Hubei prov­ince since this April, was ap­pointed the prov­ince’s act­ing gover­nor at a ses­sion of the Stand­ing Com­mit­tee of the Hubei Peo­ple’s Congress onWed­nes­day.

Born in 1960 in Xin­feng, Jiangxi prov­ince, Wang Xiaodong be­came a civil ser­vant in Jiangxi in 1983, af­ter study­ing phi­los­o­phy at Jiangxi Univer­sity for four years. He was later ap­pointed Party chief of Guiyang, cap­i­tal of Guizhou prov­ince, in 2000 and be­came deputy gover­nor of Hubei prov­ince in 2011.

Also on Wed­nes­day, Ying Yong was ap­pointed deputy mayor of Shang­hai at a ses­sion of the Stand­ing Com­mit­tee of the Shang­hai Peo­ple’s Congress.
