Wanda signs bad­minton part­ner­ship deal

Chi­nese con­glom­er­ate Wanda Group has signed an eightyear ex­clu­sive part­ner­ship with the Bad­minton World Fed­er­a­tion (BWF) that gives ex­clu­sive global spon­sor­ship and me­dia rights to its sub­sidiary In­front Sports & Me­dia.

The part­ner­ship with BWF, the sport's world gov­ern­ing body, was signed on Fri­day in Beijing. It in­cludes com­mer­cial rights to four in­ter­na­tional tour­na­ments.

Bad­minton's pop­u­lar­ity in China has rock­eted in re­cent years with nearly 20 prov­inces boast­ing pro­fes­sional teams and tens of thou­sands of am­a­teurs com­pet­ing in the an­nual ama­teur na­tional cham­pi­onships.

Wanda Chair­man Wang Jian­lin said that the com­pany plans to sign two more deals with ma­jor in­ter­na­tional sports en­ti­ties be­fore the end of 2016.

The part­ner­ship with BWF was Wanda's 10th sign­ing of mar­ket­ing and spon­sor­ship agree­ments with global fed­er­a­tions, in­clud­ing world soc­cer body FIFA, basketball body FIBA and the In­ter­na­tional Triathlon Union.
