Limit on met­als in­dus­try ex­pan­sion

The ex­pan­sion of the non­fer­rous met­als in­dus­try will be strictly con­trolled, con­tin­ued con­sol­i­da­tion en­cour­aged and proven ore re­serves will be boosted by 2020 as part of a five-year de­vel­op­ment plan for the sec­tor. In a state­ment re­leased late Tues­day, theMin­istry of In­dus­try and In­for­ma­tion Tech­nol­ogy said it will limit ex­pan­sion of new­pro­duc­tion ca­pac­ity in the cop­per, alu­minum, zinc and lead sec­tors. It said the lat­est plan also in­cluded a more ag­gres­sive tar­get for curb­ing emis­sions of sul­fur diox­ide by 15 per­cent, up from 10 per­cent over the pre­vi­ous five years. The govern­ment also set out­put tar­gets for keymet­als.
