Limit on metals industry expansion
The expansion of the nonferrous metals industry will be strictly controlled, continued consolidation encouraged and proven ore reserves will be boosted by 2020 as part of a five-year development plan for the sector. In a statement released late Tuesday, theMinistry of Industry and Information Technology said it will limit expansion of newproduction capacity in the copper, aluminum, zinc and lead sectors. It said the latest plan also included a more aggressive target for curbing emissions of sulfur dioxide by 15 percent, up from 10 percent over the previous five years. The government also set output targets for keymetals.
