Shang­hai Tele­com has an­nounced that it will launch a bil­lionyuan project to boost its broad­band speed from the cur­rent 13 megabit per sec­ond (Mbps) to above 100 Mbps, re­ported Jiefang Daily.

Shang­hai Tele­com said that all its con­sumers in Shang­hai will be cov­ered by 2018, with the up­grade of net­works in 269 com­mu­ni­ties sched­uled to be com­pleted by the end of this year. With the new speed, it would take con­sumers just 16 sec­onds to down­load a 2 GB movie.
