Kenyan cof­fee sees higher pro­duc­tion

Kenya’s cof­fee pro­duc­tion is ex­pected to hit 47,000met­ric tons in 2016 up from 45,000 tons in 2015, of­fi­cials said on Tues­day. The pro­duc­tion in­crease is due to ex­panded ar­eas un­der cof­fee cul­ti­va­tion, ac­cord­ing to Agri­cul­ture Food Fish­eries Au­thor­ity In­terim Head of Cof­fee Direc­torate GrenvilleMelli at a cof­fee fo­rum in­Nairobi. “The land un­der cof­fee pro­duc­tion has in­creased from 109,000 hectares to 114,000 hectares,” Melli said dur­ing a meet­ing about the up­com­ing trip toKenya by global cof­fee buy­ers in­Novem­ber.
