Nine­teen peo­ple, in­clud­ing the for­mer Party chief of Pingyi county, in­volved in the col­lapse of a gyp­sum mine in De­cem­ber last year, which led to the death of one miner and left an­other 13 miss­ing, were pun­ished on Wed­nes­day, ac­cord­ing to the pro­vin­cial work safety ad­min­is­tra­tion. Ma Cong, the head of the mine, com­mit­ted sui­cide dur­ing the res­cue mis­sion for the trapped min­ers. The col­lapse happened in the county on Dec 25 when a to­tal of 29 min­ers were work­ing un­der­ground. Fif­teen of the work­ers were res­cued.
