Tai­wan risks ties by deny­ing Con­sen­sus

Both a Tai­wan af­fairs of­fi­cial and re­searchers have in­di­cated the is­land’s “diplo­matic ties” will likely con­tinue to suf­fer if Taipei con­tin­ues to shun the 1992 Con­sen­sus on one China.

An Feng­shan, spokesman for the Tai­wan Af­fairs Of­fice of the State Coun­cil, China’s Cabi­net, said on Wed­nes­day that the Chi­nese main­land and Tai­wan have achieved peace­ful de­vel­op­ment of their re­la­tion­ship since 2008 based on stick­ing to the 1992 Con­sen­sus and op­pos­ing Tai­wan “in­de­pen­dence”.
