Tech com­pa­nies of­fer bonuses af­ter hol­i­day

Some tech­nol­ogy com­pa­nies in China handed out hong­bao – red en­velopes con­tain­ing money — to em­ploy­ees on the first work­ing day af­ter the Spring Fes­ti­val ended.

Ten­cent boss Pony Ma per­son­ally gave en­velopes to em­ploy­ees on Feb 4, the first day back at Ten­cent. The line of em­ploy­ees wait­ing to col­lect hong­bao from Pony Ma stretched from Ten­cent and to the street in Shen­zhen, South China’s Guang­dong prov­ince, ac­cord­ing to a re­port by sohu. com.

Be­sides the hong­bao, each of Ten­cent’s em­ploy­ees also re­ceived dig­i­tal hong­bao worth $29.21 (200 yuan).

In Bei­jing, Lei Jun, founder and CEO of China's mo­bile com­pany Xiaomi Corp, also handed out hong­bao in the of­fice on Feb 3, the com­pany’s first work­ing day af­ter the Lu­nar New Year hol­i­day.
