Cus­toms busts frozen food smug­gling gang

Cus­toms of­fi­cials in Jiangsu prov­ince said on Jan 2 they had caught a gang sus­pected of smug­gling frozen food val­ued at 200 mil­lion yuan ($31 mil­lion). Four peo­ple have been de­tained. The gang had al­legedly smug­gled 8,000 met­ric tons of frozen shrimp, cut­tle­fish and fish fil­lets since July 2013. The food is be­lieved to have been brought in via the China-Viet­nam bor­der and sold in Wuxi and Suzhou, a Nan­jing cus­toms of­fi­cial said.
