Satellite will help monitor environment
China launched the Gaofen 5 highresolution Earth observation satellite on May 9 to assist in the nation’s environmental protection efforts. The satellite blasted off atop a Long March 4C carrier rocket at 2:28 am at Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in Shanxi province. It was the 274th flight mission by a Long March rock- et, according to the State Administration of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, which oversees the program. The satellite was developed and produced by the Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology, a subsidiary of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp, and will be used mainly by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Natural Resources and the China Meteorological Administration.
