Avian virus from market: Study

China Daily (Hong Kong) - - NATION DIGEST -

International research led by University of Hong Kong scientists found chickens at the live poultry markets are very likely the most important source of human infections of avian flu virus H7N9. The findings also suggest a preference for viral replication and shedding from the respiratory and oral tracts. The researchers said that a change in the poultry trading and marketing systems to prevent direct contact of human populations with live poultry, especially chickens, will be key to averting avian-to-human transmission of viruses.
