Eviction despite homeless risk
The Land Tribunal refused to grant a reprieve to a single mother, who might become homeless after being evicted from her Sham Shui Po flat. The single mother, living on the HK$3,900 welfare payout of her young son, said she was notified of a rental raise from HK$2,650 to HK$3,950 when her lease ended in June. Though she said in court she would accept the new rent, the owner of the flat refused to renew the lease. The Land Tribunal ruled the woman must move out within three weeks according to the law.
