Dead baby’s mother ap­pears in court

The woman who al­legedly dis­posed of her baby daugh­ter’s body il­le­gally and made a false ab­duc­tion re­port to po­lice ap­peared in the Kowloon Mag­is­trates’ Court on Wed­nes­day. She faced a charge of pre­vent­ing the law­ful burial of a body. No plea was taken. The case was ad­journed un­til Jan 15, pend­ing fur­ther po­lice in­ves­ti­ga­tion. The de­fen­dant was re­manded in cus­tody. The prose­cu­tion ar­gued that the woman had ad­mit­ted leav­ing her daugh­ter, 6- month- old Yue Hoi-ching, alone at home while at­tend­ing a vi­olin class on the morn­ing of Nov 17. The woman said she re­turned in the af­ter­noon and no­ticed noth­ing wrong. How­ever, the baby showed no vi­tal signs that evening. The mother dis­posed of the baby’s body the fol­low­ing day.
