Japan firms shunning China as overseas production base

China Daily (Hong Kong) - - BUSINESSDIGEST -

China no longer is the most popular overseas production site for Japanese companies, as rising labor costs and worsening ties between Japan and China have hurt the country’s appeal, said a survey of firms by the Japan Bank of International Cooperation. Although China had topped the survey since it was started in 1992, it fell to fourth this year after Indonesia, India and Thailand. Covered in the survey were 625 Japanese manufacturers with three or more overseas affiliates, including at least one production base outside of Japan.
