11.11m pas­sen­gers to pass through HK

The Im­mi­gra­tion Depart­ment es­ti­mates that around 11.11 mil­lion pas­sen­gers will pass through Hong Kong’s sea, land and air con­trol points dur­ing the up­com­ing Christ­mas and New Year fes­tive pe­ri­ods (from Dec 20 to 26 and from Dec 31 to Jan 5). This rep­re­sents a rise of about 7.6 per­cent over the cor­re­spond­ing pe­riod last year. Of th­ese, 74 per­cent, or around 8.25 mil­lion pas­sen­gers, will pass through land bound­ary con­trol points. The num­ber of out­bound pas­sen­gers us­ing land bound­ary con­trol points will peak on Dec 25 with around 376,000 pas­sen­gers de­part­ing Hong Kong while the num­ber of in­bound pas­sen­gers will be at its high­est on Dec 26 with around 371,000 ar­riv­ing in Hong Kong. Lo Wu will be the busiest con­trol point. It is es­ti­mated that there will be around 3.36 mil­lion pas­sen­gers, with a daily av­er­age of about 258,000 pas­sen­gers, trav­el­ling via the con­trol point dur­ing the fes­tive pe­ri­ods. in Septem­ber-Novem­ber. Sec­re­tary for La­bor and Wel­fare Matthew Che­ung Kin-chung said the sea­son­ally ad­justed un­em­ploy­ment rate had been hold­ing steady at a low level since the sec­ond quar­ter of 2013.
