Bro­ken wire caused MTR chaos

MTR Cor­po­ra­tion’s ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion have found that a bro­ken fas­ten­ing wire in an over­head line sup­port bracket near Tiu Keng Leng Sta­tion caused the tem­po­rary sus­pen­sion of train ser­vices on the Tse­ung Kwan O Line and part of the Kwun Tong Line on Mon­day af­ter­noon. When the fas­ten­ing wire broke, the bracket dan­gled loose, slack­en­ing ten­sion in the two over­head lines and caus­ing them to droop. The over­head lines came into con­tact with the top of two Tse­ung Kwan O Line and one Kwun Tong Line train pass­ing through the sec­tion, trig­ger­ing the sys­tem’s safety pro­tec­tion de­vice to cut off power sup­ply.
