Man falls off ship, dies
A rescue team recovered the body of a man believed to have fallen overboard from the Rhapsody of the Seas cruise ship in Australian waters on Saturday morning. An Australian Maritime Safety Authority spokesman said the man was seen falling from the ship about 300 nautical miles east of Brisbane at about 2 am on Saturday. A body was fished out of the water shortly before 9:30 am. The ship had left Sydney bound for Noumea on Thursday night as part of a nine-night tour of the South Pacific. A spokeswoman for the ship’s owner, Royal Caribbean International, said in a written statement another passenger had witnessed the man go overboard. The incident was also captured on the ship’s CCTV system, she said.
