Man falls off ship, dies

A res­cue team re­cov­ered the body of a man be­lieved to have fallen over­board from the Rhap­sody of the Seas cruise ship in Aus­tralian waters on Satur­day morn­ing. An Aus­tralian Mar­itime Safety Au­thor­ity spokesman said the man was seen fall­ing from the ship about 300 nau­ti­cal miles east of Bris­bane at about 2 am on Satur­day. A body was fished out of the wa­ter shortly be­fore 9:30 am. The ship had left Syd­ney bound for Noumea on Thurs­day night as part of a nine-night tour of the South Pa­cific. A spokes­woman for the ship’s owner, Royal Caribbean In­ter­na­tional, said in a writ­ten state­ment another pas­sen­ger had wit­nessed the man go over­board. The in­ci­dent was also cap­tured on the ship’s CCTV sys­tem, she said.
