Con­trol point project to cost 50% more

The De­vel­op­ment Bureau said the costs of the Liantang/He­ung Yuen Wai Bound­ary Con­trol Point project was ex­pected to ex­ceed the bud­geted HK$16.2 bil­lion by more than 50 per­cent and will reach HK$24.8 bil­lion. The bureau said it would ap­ply for the ad­di­tional fund­ing for some HK$8.55 bil­lion from the Leg­isla­tive Coun­cil fi­nance panel in Fe­bru­ary. The bureau at­trib­uted the rise to soar­ing con­struc­tion costs and the worsethan-ex­pected con­di­tion of the soil at the planned Lung Shan Tun­nel, which is part of the project.
