Men­tal health in spot­light

Chi­nese e-com­merce gi­ant Alibaba Group has joined hands with a Shang­haibased NGO, World of Art Brut Cul­ture, to help peo­ple with men­tal dis­or­ders. WABC aims to help peo­ple with spe­cial needs de­velop their artis­tic po­ten­tial through work­shops or train­ing pro­grams. At this year’s Sin­gles Day shop­ping fes­ti­val, Alibaba was au­tho­rized by WABC to use some of the art de­signs from those who ben­e­fit­ted from WABC pro­grams. Th­ese were fea­tured in such items as um­brel­las, cards and shoes, that were sold on Alibaba’s crowd­fund­ing plat­forms. The busi­ness pro­gram, com­bin­ing art and char­ity, will last for a month and 10 per­cent of the over­all rev­enue will go back to help WABC’s fu­ture work.
