Tele­com carriers sign in­ter­net deal

Nepal Tele­com, Nepal’s sta­te­owned tele­com com­pany, and China Tele­com Global have signed an agree­ment on pro­vid­ing in­ter­net ser­vices be­tween the two coun­tries us­ing cross-border ter­res­trial ca­ble route. Gee­long Port in China will be used for the route to pro­vide the in­ter­net ser­vice. The two com­pa­nies signed the agree­ment in Hong Kong ear­lier this week. The two coun­tries were con­nected with op­ti­cal fiber through the Gee­long-Ra­suwa­gadhi border point in June, end­ing Nepal’s sole de­pen­dence on In­dia for con­nect­ing the Hi­malayan coun­try with global tele­com and in­ter­net ser­vices.
