Di­vorce re­quest snares fraud­ster

A restau­rant in Nan­chong city has been put un­der the me­dia spot­light af­ter its owner of­fered dis­counts and free beer to din­ers to cel­e­brate his di­vorce. The owner, sur­named Cao, even printed his di­vorce cer­tifi­cate on his restau­rant’s pro­mo­tional ad­ver­tise­ments. The lo­cal in­dus­try and com­merce ad­min­is­tra­tion said that while they did not en­cour­age such pro­mo­tions, Cao had not vi­o­lated any laws or reg­u­la­tions. C H E N G D U C O M M E R C I A L DA I LY A drug mule, sur­named Wen, has been jailed for 12 years and fined 10,000 yuan ($1,440) af­ter he at­tempted to smug­gle 59 bags of narcotics into Sichuan prov­ince. Wen took a coach from Donguan, Guang­dong prov­ince, to Xichang, Sichuan, last June. On ar­rival, he ex­creted four bags of the drugs but was un­able to pass any more, so re­ported him­self to the po­lice com­plain­ing of nau­sea and vom­it­ing. He said he would pre­fer to serve a jail term than to die if the drug bags burst in his body. Chengdu Jin­niu dis­trict peo­ple’s court sen­tenced Wen on Dec 1.
