Divorce request snares fraudster
A restaurant in Nanchong city has been put under the media spotlight after its owner offered discounts and free beer to diners to celebrate his divorce. The owner, surnamed Cao, even printed his divorce certificate on his restaurant’s promotional advertisements. The local industry and commerce administration said that while they did not encourage such promotions, Cao had not violated any laws or regulations. C H E N G D U C O M M E R C I A L DA I LY A drug mule, surnamed Wen, has been jailed for 12 years and fined 10,000 yuan ($1,440) after he attempted to smuggle 59 bags of narcotics into Sichuan province. Wen took a coach from Donguan, Guangdong province, to Xichang, Sichuan, last June. On arrival, he excreted four bags of the drugs but was unable to pass any more, so reported himself to the police complaining of nausea and vomiting. He said he would prefer to serve a jail term than to die if the drug bags burst in his body. Chengdu Jinniu district people’s court sentenced Wen on Dec 1.
