Tiger re­turn­ing to where it all started

Tiger Woods will play Riviera Coun­try Club in Los An­ge­les for the first time since 2006 when he tees up at the Ge­n­e­sis Open in Fe­bru­ary.

The for­mer world No 1, who re­turned from a 16-month in­jury ab­sence ear­lier this month, an­nounced on Tues­day that he will play in the Feb 13-19 event that benefits his char­ity foun­da­tion.

Riviera was the site of 14-time ma­jor win­ner Woods’ PGA Tour de­but in 1992 at the age of 16.

The 40-year-old Amer­i­can said he “weighed about 105lbs” at the time “and it was a lifechang­ing mo­ment for me”.

The Tiger Woods Foun­da­tion, the PGA Tour and Ge­n­e­sis an­nounced a partn­er­ship un­der which Woods’ events com­pany, TGR Live, will man­age the tour­na­ment.
