Joint pa­trols start on Mekong River

A new round of joint pa­trols in­volv­ing China, Laos, Myan­mar and Thai­land were launched on the Mekong River on Tues­day. Seven ships with 190 law en­force­ment of­fi­cers set sail from Guan­lei Port and will travel over 500 kilo­me­ters. The pa­trols started in De­cem­ber 2011 to tackle safety con­cerns af­ter crim­i­nals hi­jacked two cargo ships and killed 13 Chi­nese sailors on Oct 5, 2011.
