Neg­li­gence blamed for fa­tal ac­ci­dent

Police said on Thurs­day that a traf­fic ac­ci­dent at a farm­ers’ mar­ket that killed four peo­ple was a re­sult of driver neg­li­gence. A van crashed into a farm­ers’ mar­ket in the cap­i­tal’s north­ern sub­urb of Chang­ping at about 3 pm on Wed­nes­day, killing four peo­ple and in­jur­ing 12. Police said the 45-year-old driver, sur­named Xu, did not in­tend to harm any­one. Xu has been de­tained and an in­ves­ti­ga­tion into the in­ci­dent is un­der­way.
