China Daily (Hong Kong) - - CHINA -

An investigation has been launched after a local couple managed to successfully deposit $9,100 in fake US bank notes at a savings bank in Suining city. A woman, surnamed Li, and her male accomplice deposited the counterfeit currency at two separate counters in the bank before transferring the funds elsewhere via an ATM later in the day. The bank only noticed what had happened hours later. The fake notes were actually paper offerings, sometimes called ghost money, which are made to be burned in veneration of the dead.
