New su­per­vi­sion min­is­ter ap­pointed

Yang Xiaodu has been named min­is­ter of su­per­vi­sion, the lat­est in a hand­ful of ap­point­ments for se­nior po­si­tions in the cen­tral gov­ern­ment.

The an­nounce­ment was made on Sun­day dur­ing a meet­ing of the Na­tional Peo­ple’s Congress Stand­ing Com­mit­tee af­ter a vote.

Yang, 63, has been deputy sec­re­tary of the Cen­tral Com­mis­sion for Dis­ci­pline In­spec­tion, the Party’s top anti-graft body, since Jan­uary 2014. He has spent most of his ca­reer in the Ti­bet au­ton­o­mous re­gion and Shang­hai.

He started as deputy man­ager of a phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pany in Ti­bet and then worked for the lo­cal gov­ern­ment. He was vicechair­man of the au­ton­o­mous re­gion be­tween May 1998 and May 2001.

Yang served as deputy mayor of Shang­hai be­tween May 2001 and Oc­to­ber 2006 and also held other po­si­tions in the city, in­clud­ing the head of the lo­cal dis­ci­pline com­mis­sion, be­fore join­ing the CCDI in 2013.
