The FBI and the criminal division of the US Internal Revenue Service are investigating alleged corruption involved in awarding the 2021 World Athletics Championships to Eugene, Oregon, according to the BBC.

The International Association for Athletic Federations handed the event to the city without a formal bidding process, arousing suspicion from the two agencies. Gothenberg, Sweden, also expressed strong interest in hosting the event and demonstrated adequate ability to do so, but was not considered due to the absence of a bidding process.
