Surgery leaves woman ‘uglier’

A man in Guangyuan, sur­named Jia, who was re­cently sen­tenced to five months in jail with a year re­prieve for elec­tri­fy­ing fish dur­ing a fish­ing ban, vol­un­tar­ily pur­chased 30,000 young fish and re­leased them into the wild on June 20. Jia, 52, was caught elec­tri­fy­ing fish in a river in Jial­ing jiang on April 14, with po­lice of­fi­cers seiz­ing a to­tal of 71.64 kilo­grams of wild fish. The court said Jia re­ceived a le­nient sen­tence for ac­knowl­edg­ing that his ini­tial be­hav­ior had dam­aged the en­vi­ron­ment, and show­ing will­ing­ness to cor­rect his wrong­do­ing.

W W W.C H I N A N E W S .C O M .C N A woman in Nan­jing, sur­named Jia, who was un­sat­is­fied with the re­sults of nine cos­metic surg­eries, on which she spent more than 110,000 yuan ($16,160), was re­cently awarded 70,000 yuan in com­pen­sa­tion. She took the hos­pi­tal where she had the surg­eries to court, say­ing the pro­ce­dures had left her uglier than be­fore. Jia, who had the surg­eries be­tween 2014 and 2016, said the hos­pi­tal had com­mit­ted fraud. Both sides reached an agree­ment on the com­pen­sa­tion sum af­ter me­di­a­tion from the court.

The man said that if his wife did not trans­fer 50 mil­lion yuan to him, he would jump off the build­ing. Five fire­fight­ers were able to pull the man away from the edge of the build­ing while he was dis­tracted by their col­leagues on the ground who were talk­ing with him.
