Shenzhen, Guangdong province, has become the most economically competitive city in the country, followed by Hong Kong and Shanghai, according to the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The academy’s index measures the performance of 294 cities, with most located in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and the Bohai Rim. It also looked at livability and sustainability competitiveness, with Hong Kong ranking first on both counts.
