Shen­zhen, Guang­dong prov­ince, has be­come the most eco­nom­i­cally com­pet­i­tive city in the coun­try, fol­lowed by Hong Kong and Shang­hai, ac­cord­ing to the Chi­nese Academy of So­cial Sciences. The academy’s in­dex mea­sures the per­for­mance of 294 cities, with most lo­cated in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and the Bo­hai Rim. It also looked at liv­abil­ity and sus­tain­abil­ity com­pet­i­tive­ness, with Hong Kong rank­ing first on both counts.
