Found­ing a new univer­sity

A se­nior Malaysian ed­u­ca­tion of­fi­cial ex­presses the hope that a Chi­nese univer­sity will es­tab­lish a cam­pus in Malaysia. The Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion se­lects Xi­a­men Univer­sity in Fu­jian prov­ince to turn the re­quest into a re­al­ity. Na­jib Razak, the Malaysian prime min­is­ter, of­fi­cially ex­tends an in­vi­ta­tion to Zhu Chong­shi, pres­i­dent of Xi­a­men Univer­sity, to es­tab­lish a cam­pus in Malaysia. The China Devel­op­ment Bank, Sun­suria Devel­op­ment and Xi­a­men Univer­sity sign a joint agree­ment, in the pres­ence of Pres­i­dent Xi Jin­ping and Na­jib, to pro­vide sup­port for con­struc­tion of the cam­pus. Con­struc­tion of the univer­sity be­gins. An open­ing cer­e­mony is held for the first batch of stu­dents to study at Xi­a­men Univer­sity Malaysia. The first stu­dents from the Chi­nese main­land en­roll at the cam­pus.
