Runners raise cash for war veterans

China Daily (Hong Kong) - - BUSINESS -

The mileage from runners can be transformed into cash donations to old soldiers in northern Hebei province who participated in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45). Each participant can donate one yuan (14 US cents) after running one kilometer, according to the organizer, real estate company Sino-Ocean Group Ltd. It said in July the project hoped to help 25 veteran soldiers, each of whom would receive 1,200 yuan every year. This would fund physical examinations, outpatient treatment and purchase pills.
