Rare wild mon­key goes ape in vil­lage

A rare wild mon­key has been caus­ing trou­ble re­cently for vil­lagers in Yun­nan prov­ince by at­tack­ing res­i­dents and pigs and steal­ing fruit. Dai Yongcui, a res­i­dent of Gal­abo vil­lage in Gong­shan, was bit­ten on her thighs and ears by an As­sam macaque, a Class 1 pro­tected wild an­i­mal in China, on her way home on Thurs­day. The next day, an­other vil­lager said he saw the mon­key steal­ing pig fod­der and peaches. Po­lice used a tran­quil­izer gun to catch the mon­key on Satur­day.
