Del­e­gates to congress are elected

A to­tal of 2,287 del­e­gates have been elected to the 19th Na­tional Congress of the Com­mu­nist Party of China, sched­uled to open on Oct 18.

The del­e­gates, rep­re­sent­ing 89 mil­lion mem­bers of the CPC na­tion­wide, come from all walks of life, such as the econ­omy, science, na­tional de­fense, law en­force­ment, ed­u­ca­tion, health, sports and cul­ture sec­tors. Many of them are work­ing at the grass­roots level.

There is also a proper pro­por­tion of fe­male del­e­gates and del­e­gates from mi­nor­ity eth­nic groups. The list still awaits fi­nal ap­proval of the del­e­gates’ qual­i­fi­ca­tion ex­am­i­na­tion com­mit­tee of the com­ing Party congress.

The congress, held ev­ery five years, is ex­pected to map out the coun­try’s de­vel­op­ment for the fol­low­ing years and has re­ceived wide at­ten­tion both at home and abroad.

To bet­ter serve re­porters, a me­dia cen­ter will open on Oct 11 for do­mes­tic and over­seas jour­nal­ists, it was an­nounced on Fri­day.

The me­dia cen­ter, based in the Bei­jing Me­dia Cen­ter Ho­tel, will han­dle cre­den­tials for for­eign jour­nal­ists and cor­re­spon­dents from the Hong Kong and Ma­cao spe­cial ad­min­is­tra­tive re­gions, as well as Tai­wan.

The cen­ter will also han­dle in­ter­view ap­pli­ca­tions, or­ga­nize news con­fer­ences and ar­range cov­er­age for other ac­tiv­i­ties re­lated to the congress.
