Aged jeepneys to be banned

China Daily (Hong Kong) - - WORLD -

Starting from Jan 1 next year, the government will ban jeepneys aged 15 years or older from plying the streets despite the opposition of some transport groups. The move is part of the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program, a three-year plan aimed at making jeepneys safer and more environmentallyfriendly. Contrary to the claims of some transport groups, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement on Thursday that the program “is not anti-poor.”
