US busi­ness in­ven­to­ries in­crease to $1.93 tril­lion

The lat­est US man­u­fac­tur­ing and trade statis­tics, re­leased on Mon­day, showed that busi­ness in­ven­to­ries for Fe­bru­ary hit $1.93 tril­lion. Ac­cord­ing to the US Cen­sus Bureau’s data, man­u­fac­tur­ers’ and trade in­ven­to­ries, ad­justed for sea­sonal vari­a­tions but not for price changes, were es­ti­mated at an endof-month level of $1.93 tril­lion, up 0.6 per­cent from Jan­uary 2018 and were up 4.0 per­cent from Fe­bru­ary 2017. The com­bined value of dis­tribu­tive trade sales and man­u­fac­tur­ers’ ship­ments for Fe­bru­ary, ad­justed for sea­sonal and trad­ing­day dif­fer­ences but not for price changes, was es­ti­mated at $1.43 tril­lion, up 0.4 per­cent from Jan­uary 2018, but was up 5.8 per­cent from Fe­bru­ary 2017.
