Coach driver dies saving passengers

-

Coach driver Zhao Jianguo was killed when a rock fell from a mountain and struck his cab on June 30, but his sudden braking saved the other 37 people on board. The coach, carrying two drivers, a tour guide and 35 tourists, was heading to Chengdu on an expressway flanked by mountains on one side and a river on the other. Chen Yong, who was sitting near Zhao, said he felt the coach come to a sudden halt and then the rock hitting the cab like a bomb. He called Zhao’s name while helping passengers out, but Zhao did not respond. When a rescue team arrived, Zhao’s body was found stuck under the rock, with his hands on the steering wheel and a foot on the brake. Chen said the coach could have rolled into the river, killing them all, if Zhao had not braked in time. Six passengers were slightly injured.
