Smuggled poppy pods intercepted
More than 1.5 metric tons of smuggled poppy pods were seized by customs officers in Tengchong, authorities announced on Monday. The anti-smuggling police intercepted a truck in Houqiao township near the China-Myanmar border on Wednesday. Two suspects were arrested and 86 bags of poppy pods, weighing 1.51 tons, were seized. Poppies are the main raw material from which opium and heroin are made.
