Police uncover family of thieves
Police in Xianyang say they have solved more than 120 burglaries committed over the past six years by detaining a family of three on Oct 31. The suspects are a father surnamed Zhang, 47; his wife, surnamed Dong, 46; and their son, 26, who are alleged to have taken food, clothes, home appliances Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court held a public appeal hearing on Nov 6 for a case in which a man had been convicted of illegally selling endangered parrots. Wang Peng, 32, had been sentenced to five years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan ($755) by Baoan District People’s Court in March for selling two sun parakeets, an endangered species native to South America. The prosecutor accused Wang of selling animals under the State’s protection. But Wang, who raises the birds, claims they are not wildlife. Wang appealed to the higher court after refusing to accept the earlier verdict. His hearing continues.
