For the past 34 years, a primary school in Shenyang, Liaoning province, has maintained a policy of not giving homework to its students. With no homework to keep the students busy after school, they can join optional courses or participate in some of the school’s 60 different clubs, as well as 20 compulsory courses covering topics including smart robots, music, and the arts. The Fifth Primary School of the Shenyang Railway was established in 1958 and introduced its no-homework policy in 1984.
